Detran-PI adopts new practice test manual and announces the end of parking test for driver's license
The Detran-PI in Brazil is set to implement a new practical testing manual that removes the parking test requirement for category B driver's licenses.
The State Department of Transit of Piauí (Detran-PI) in Brazil is making significant changes to the practical driving test protocol beginning Thursday, with a new manual sanctioned by the National Secretary of Transit (Senatran). A key element of this new manual is the elimination of the parking test, or "baliza," for category B licenses, which are for four-wheel motor vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) of up to 3,500 kg and a maximum of 8 seats, excluding the driver. This change is part of broader updates intended to modernize the evaluation process for new drivers while maintaining the requirements for other vehicle categories.
Additionally, the new regulations will increase the allowed number of mistakes a candidate can make before failing the test, from four to eleven. This adjustment aims to provide candidates with a more forgiving testing environment, potentially increasing their chances of passing on the first attempt. Also noteworthy is the removal of so-called "eliminatory mistakes," which simplifies the evaluation process by ensuring that a candidate could only fail based on the total number of mistakes rather than specific critical errors.
These revisions could have implications for driver education standards in Brazil, as they ease previous stringent requirements, possibly leading to a wider pool of new drivers on the road. However, it may also raise concerns regarding driver preparedness and overall road safety as the testing process is perceived to become less rigorous.
