Free campaign offers 870 spots for paternity recognition in Amazonas; see how to schedule

The Defensoria Pública do Estado do Amazonas has launched a free campaign for paternity recognition called 'Eu Tenho Pai', offering 870 spots for individuals to establish biological and socio-affective paternity.

The Defensoria Pública do Estado do Amazonas (DPE-AM) has initiated a significant outreach campaign known as "Eu Tenho Pai" aimed at facilitating the recognition of paternity and maternity, both biological and socio-affective. Set to begin in Manaus on Thursday (19), this campaign will provide access to 870 slots, including 500 for in-person consultations and 120 for virtual assistance. The initiative is designed to assist individuals who wish to acknowledge their biological fathers legally, thereby enhancing their legal rights and personal identity.

This year marks the fifth iteration of the program, which originally started in 2022. As highlighted by public defender Sarah Lobo, this campaign has been groundbreaking for offering free DNA tests to the public, eliminating financial barriers that previously hindered many families from undergoing paternity recognition. By including the father's name on the birth certificate, the program not only facilitates legal documentation but also supports familial relations and social recognition.

The campaign has received positive feedback within the community, as it addresses a vital social issue regarding parental recognition. With 250 additional slots available in regions outside Manaus, the initiative seeks to ensure that even those in remote areas can participate. By raising awareness about available resources and encouraging families to come forward, the DPE-AM is taking significant steps towards improving social justice and family rights in the Amazonas state.
