Greek Culture Minister Lina Mendoni was in Cairo to attend the awarding ceremony for the 'Kavafies Awards', highlighting the importance of cultural exchanges between Greece and Egypt. The Kavafies Festival, which has not taken place for seven years, is being revitalized, thanks in large part to the efforts of the Greek Embassy in Egypt. Mendoni emphasized that the festival has been supported materially and morally by the Ministry of Culture since its inception in 1983.

She also acknowledged the vital contributions of Kostis Moschopoulos, the Cultural Advisor of the Greek Embassy, in expanding and establishing the Kavafies as a significant cultural reference point. The return of the Kavafies Festival is seen as a major step in renewing Greek-Egyptian cultural ties, with aspirations that it will infuse new life into the bilateral relations. Both governments are reportedly committed to enhancing their ties across various fields, including culture, showcasing the significance of cultural diplomacy in strengthening international relationships.

The revival of the festival also signifies a growing acknowledgment of the interconnectedness between the two cultures, particularly as they both recognize and celebrate the legacy of the late poet Constantine Kavafis. The event serves not only as a celebration of literature but as a platform for promoting cultural dialogue and fostering mutual respect and understanding between Greece and Egypt, making it an important cultural milestone for both nations.
