Gērman: It's a pity that it happened at a competition that occurs once every four years

Latvian alpine skier Dženifera Gērman has expressed disappointment after failing to finish her Olympic slalom event due to an error on the course.

Dženifera Gērman, representing Latvia at her first Olympic Games, faced a challenging slalom course where she missed a gate and did not finish the race. Speaking to journalists, she reflected on the unfortunate timing of her mistake, occurring at a prestigious event that happens only every four years, where qualifying is highly competitive. Gērman acknowledged that mistakes are part of skiing and that she had taken risks during her run, which ultimately did not pay off this time.

In her Olympic debut, Gērman started her run with bib number 17 but was unable to complete the course, which has left her feeling disappointed. She articulated the emotional weight of such an outcome, especially considering the rarity of Olympic competitions and the effort it takes for athletes to qualify for them. "Of course, such a result is never the goal, but that is slalom. It happens often in our sport, yet it still feels like a mistake," she explained.

Before arriving at the Olympics, Gērman had also suffered a setback in January when she fell during a World Cup slalom event in Austria, which resulted in a knee injury. The combination of her recent injury and the pressure of the Olympic competition added to the challenge she faced on the slopes. Her experience highlights the unpredictable nature of competitive skiing and the high stakes involved in performing at such elite levels.
