Minimum 9,000 PLN - that's how much psychologists will earn from July. The Ministry wants changes

The Polish Ministry of Health plans to revise the minimum salary for psychologists to a base of 9,000 PLN starting July, but also proposes a freeze on salary increases for this year.

The Ministry of Health in Poland has announced plans to increase the minimum salary for psychologists to 9,081.63 PLN gross by July 1, 2026, which represents a rise of 736.28 PLN compared to 2025 figures. Furthermore, for clinical psychologists, the minimum salary is projected to reach 11,485.59 PLN gross, increasing by 931.17 PLN. These adjustments depend largely on the average wage in the economy as declared by the Central Statistical Office (GUS), which reported an average income of 8,903.56 PLN last year.

However, the Ministry's intentions to revise pay scales have raised concerns among professionals and institutions in the healthcare sector. There are indications that the Ministry may propose a freeze on these pay increases for the current year, prompting a backlash from advocates for fair wages. The proposed legislative changes highlight an ongoing battle for salary improvements in Poland's healthcare system, particularly for mental health professionals who argue that their current wages do not reflect their qualifications and the demands of their work.

Compelling discussions are underway regarding how these changes will impact the recruitment and retention of mental health professionals. With an already pressing demand for healthcare services in Poland, any delays or freezes on salary increases could exacerbate workforce challenges, affecting the quality of care provided to patients. As the situation develops, it will be crucial for stakeholders to advocate for fair compensation that supports both healthcare workers and the community they serve.
