Last Day of the Lunar New Year Holiday, High of 13 Degrees During the Day... Below Freezing in the Morning
The last day of the Lunar New Year holiday sees temperatures rise to 13 degrees Celsius, while morning temperatures remain below freezing.
On the final day of the Lunar New Year holiday on January 18, South Korea experiences largely clear and mild weather with daytime temperatures reaching up to 13 degrees Celsius. However, the morning remains quite cold with temperatures potentially dropping below freezing, leading to a lower perceived temperature due to stronger winds. The Korea Meteorological Administration forecasts that until January 20, inland areas will register low morning temperatures, particularly in the Gyeongsang province where dryness will increase.
For the day, the minimum morning temperatures are projected to range between -7 to 2 degrees Celsius, with maximum daytime temperatures varying from 5 to 13 degrees Celsius across different regions. Specific forecasts include Seoul at 0 degrees in the morning and 6 degrees in the afternoon, Incheon with a low of 1 and high of 5, while Daegu is expected to see 11 degrees in the afternoon. Notably, the islands of Ulleungdo and Dokdo may receive rain or snow.
The weather service has issued warnings about the thawing of ice on rivers and lakes during the day as temperatures rise, urging residents to exercise caution. Additionally, with expected increased dryness and strong winds, there is a heightened risk of fire ignitions in the Gyeongsang region. Air quality is expected to be moderately good across the country but may dip to 'bad' levels in the metropolitan area and Chungnam region during the morning hours.
