Clear and chilly on the morning of Lunar New Year... temperatures rise in the afternoon, with a high of 13 degrees
The weather in South Korea on Lunar New Year’s morning is expected to be clear but chilly, with afternoon temperatures reaching up to 13 degrees Celsius.
On January 17th, which marks Lunar New Year as well as a Tuesday, South Korea will experience mostly clear weather throughout the day. The morning will be particularly chilly, with temperatures ranging from -7 to 3 degrees Celsius, expected to rise in the afternoon to between 4 and 13 degrees Celsius. Most regions will experience morning temperatures dropping below zero, with the wind making it feel even colder. There will be significant temperature differences in certain inland areas, particularly in the Gyeongsang region, where the temperature variation between day and night could exceed 15 degrees Celsius.
The weather forecast indicates that while the central and southeastern regions and Jeju will be generally cloudy, it will gradually clear up from the morning. Meanwhile, the Jeolla region is expected to remain cloudy, and there may be light rain in parts of eastern Jeju, receiving less than 0.1mm of rainfall. Sea conditions will see waves ranging from 0.5 to 2.5 meters in the East Sea and from 0.5 to 1.0 meters in the West Sea, with the inland seas experiencing slightly higher waves.
Throughout the Lunar New Year holiday period, morning temperatures are predicted to be low. Particularly in the Gyeongsang region, the atmosphere is expected to remain dry. On January 18th, similar weather with a high of 5 to 13 degrees Celsius is anticipated, although clouds will linger over Gangwon until the morning. The forecast for January 19th and the days following remains clear with temperatures gradually increasing to between 8 and 16 degrees Celsius for the later days, though the metropolitan area and Gangwon may see occasional clouds as well.
