Temperatures Rise from the Afternoon of the Third Day of the Holiday… Fine Dust Also 'Good'

Temperatures are expected to rise above freezing from the afternoon of the third day of the Lunar New Year holiday, and fine dust levels are rated as 'good' across the country.

On the third day of the Lunar New Year holiday, which falls on January 16, temperatures are anticipated to rise above freezing from the afternoon, making it an ideal time for outings. However, areas in eastern Gangwon, southeastern Gyeongsang, and Jeju are expected to be mostly cloudy, with rain or snow particularly affecting the eastern coastal regions. The Korea Meteorological Administration has reported that morning temperatures will range from -6 to 4 degrees Celsius, with daytime highs forecasted between 4 and 13 degrees Celsius in various regions, including 7 degrees in Seoul and 11 degrees in Daegu.

As temperatures rise throughout the day, the melting ice could pose safety hazards, prompting precautions. However, the cloud cover over Gangwon and the southeastern regions will bring precipitation, with rain or snow expected in Busan and Ulsan, tapering off by night except for Ulsan, where snow is expected to continue into the early morning of January 17. Heavy snowfall warnings have been issued for the mountainous areas of Gangwon, with forecasts of significant snowfall rates of 1 to 3 centimeters per hour, and warnings may extend to the southern mountainous regions of Gangwon.

The expected snowfall is projected at 3 to 8 centimeters in the northern coastal and mountainous areas of Gangwon, with amounts over 10 centimeters in some places, while eastern Gyeongsang may see 1 to 5 centimeters. Precipitation amounts could reach 5 to 15 millimeters in the eastern coastal and mountainous regions of Gangwon. As for air quality, pollution levels are expected to improve by midday, with fine dust concentrations ranging from 'good' to 'moderate' nationwide. Ocean wave heights are forecasted between 0.5 to 2.5 meters in the East and West Seas, with the offshore forecast predicting waves up to 3.5 meters.
