Hemoacre launches campaign to increase donations during Carnival; learn how to donate
Hemoacre is launching a campaign to encourage blood donations during the Carnival season in Acre, Brazil, amid concerns over decreasing donor numbers.
The Centro de Hematologia e Hemoterapia do Acre (Hemoacre) has initiated a campaign aimed at boosting blood donations in light of the impending Carnival celebrations. With a significant decrease in donor participation reported since late December, the campaign seeks to ensure an adequate blood supply during a time when demand is expected to rise. Quésia Nogueira, the coordinator of donor recruitment, expressed concern about the drop-off in donations during the holidays but reassured that the blood stock remains stable for now.
According to Nogueira, while the current blood supply is stable, the typical trend during Carnival is a marked decline in the number of donors visiting Hemoacre, leading to urgent calls for increased participation. She emphasized that, as blood use tends to spike during events like Carnival, it is crucial for the community to engage in regular donations. Hemoacre will continue its operations normally throughout Carnival 2026 to accommodate potential donors and ensure that their services remain uninterrupted.
Donation points are available in cities such as Rio Branco, Cruzeiro do Sul, and Brasiléia, making it accessible for people across the state. Nogueira advocates for steady donations, explaining that the blood supply is dynamic and can fluctuate rapidly depending on community participation. The campaign thus aims not only to replenish stocks but also to remind the public of the ongoing need for blood donations, particularly during high-demand periods like Carnival.
