Hemorio launches campaign to encourage blood donation during Carnival, the most critical period of the year; learn how to donate

Hemorio has launched the 'CarnaHemorio' campaign to promote blood donation during Carnival, addressing the critical drop in donations during this time.

Hemorio has initiated the 'CarnaHemorio: Folia que salva' campaign to boost blood donations in anticipation of the Carnival period, which is known to be critically low for blood supply. This campaign runs from Monday, February 9, to Thursday, February 12, and aims to mobilize the population to donate during a time when the demand for blood typically surges while donations decline. The organization highlights that blood donations can drop by as much as 30% during Carnival, putting additional pressure on emergency services that rely on a steady supply of blood.

To maintain sufficient blood levels, Hemorio needs to collect between 350 and 400 bags of blood daily. Their blood bank supplies over 100 public health units across the state of Rio de Janeiro, including major emergency hospitals and federal health facilities, as well as supporting patients with conditions such as sickle cell disease, hemophilia, and leukemia. This situation underscores the vital role of blood donation in ensuring medical services can function effectively during high-demand periods, such as Carnival.

The call to action from Hemorio not only highlights the immediate needs of the healthcare system but also imparts a sense of communal responsibility. Encouraging participation in blood donation can foster a spirit of solidarity in the community during a festive but challenging time. The campaign details how individuals can contribute, ensuring that everyone in Rio can play a role in sustaining life-saving blood supplies during Carnival.
