TETFund sets up committee on multipurpose laboratories
The Tertiary Education Trust Fund has established a committee to oversee the establishment of multipurpose laboratories in Nigerian tertiary institutions.
The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has inaugurated a seven-member advisory committee aimed at enhancing the establishment and utilization of multipurpose laboratories across Nigeria's tertiary institutions. The initiative was launched by TETFund's Executive Secretary, Sonny Echono, in Abuja, where he tasked the committee with providing strategic guidance within a month on the design, specifications, deployment, and sustainable management of these laboratories. The goal is to ensure that these facilities will effectively support educational and research activities throughout the country's six geopolitical zones.
Echono emphasized that this initiative is part of the current administration's broader effort to develop a robust research culture in Nigeria. By establishing multipurpose laboratories, TETFund hopes to move the nation away from being merely a consumer of knowledge and technology to becoming a competitive player within the global knowledge economy. He noted that such advancements are vital for transforming Nigeria into a nation that not only consumes but also produces valuable research and innovations.
The establishment of these laboratories is intended to provide tertiary institutions with the necessary infrastructure to foster research and innovation. By deploying well-equipped laboratories, TETFund aims to equip students and researchers with the tools needed to contribute meaningfully to their fields of study. As the initiative takes shape, it holds the potential to revitalize the educational landscape in Nigeria, enhance collaboration among institutions, and ultimately strengthen the country’s global competitiveness in technology and research.
