Malõgina lost in the first round of the W75 tournament in Germany
Estonian tennis player Elena Malõgina lost in the first round of the W75 tournament in Altenkirchen to Swiss player Alina Granwehr after a closely contested match lasting over two hours.
Elena Malõgina, ranked as Estonia's top female tennis player, faced defeat in her opening match at the W75 tournament held in Altenkirchen, Germany. In a match that lasted two hours and ten minutes, she lost to Swiss player Alina Granwehr with scores of 4:6, 6:2, 3:6. Although Malõgina's ranking of 348 puts her slightly ahead of Granwehr's 382, she has previously fallen to Granwehr in a three-set match back in September, indicating a challenging rivalry between the two players.
The first set turned on a critical ninth game where Malõgina had a 40-0 advantage on Granwehr's serve but failed to convert on any break points. Granwehr capitalized on this opportunity by closing the game with three aces in a row, a remarkable feat in women's tennis. This opening set loss appeared to shake Malõgina's confidence momentarily; however, she quickly regrouped in the second set, taking an early lead of 4-0. By maintaining her serve, she succeeded in taking the second set without significant challenges.
Unfortunately for Malõgina, the decisive third set saw her struggle with her service games. Despite a competitive back-and-forth reaching a 3-3 score, she was unable to secure her serve and lost the match as Granwehr regained control. This match demonstrates the tight competition at the W75 level and highlights Malõgina's ongoing quest to reclaim her form on the court as she continues to compete internationally.
