'Girls in Science': Pará Planetarium opens free enrollments in the project
The Pará Planetarium has launched free enrollments for a project aimed at encouraging girls to engage in scientific activities.
The Pará Science Center and Planetarium (CCPPA) has opened free enrollments for the extension project titled "Astrociência: Meninas nas Ciências no Pará." This initiative specifically targets girls in the 9th grade of elementary school to the 2nd year of high school from both public and private schools, encouraging them to participate in scientific and research activities across various scientific fields. Interested participants can register online through a form available on the University of the State of Pará (Uepa) website until March 1.
The project will take place monthly at the CCPPA on Wednesday afternoons from March to December 2026 and aims to select 20 students. Those selected will have the chance to engage with researchers through lectures, hands-on workshops, and practical experimental activities. Additionally, they will develop scientific initiation projects, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation for science among young women in Pará.
Linked to the collective Tainá-Kan, the "Astrociência: Meninas nas Ciências no Pará" project started its activities in 2023. It represents an important step towards bridging the gender gap in science education by actively involving and empowering girls in scientific exploration and careers, thereby enhancing their future opportunities in these fields.
