Footage captured at the Port of Santos reveals four crew members jumping into the sea just seconds before their ferry was struck by a Singaporean container ship.
A dramatic incident occurred at the Port of Santos when four crew members of the ferry FB-15 were filmed leaping into the sea moments before a collision with a Singapore-flagged container ship. The footage, obtained by G1, captures the intense atmosphere and urgency of the situation as the crew took immediate action to protect themselves. The incident happened around 9:30 PM on Monday (October 16), highlighting the dangers present in busy maritime environments.
According to local authorities, the crew consisted of a captain and three sailors who jumped into the water and succeeded in swimming to safety onshore, showcasing their quick thinking under pressure. The Secretariat of Environment, Infrastructure and Logistics (Semil) confirmed that the crew members were able to reach the concrete quay, where they were assisted by bystanders. People on land played a crucial role in the rescue efforts, providing life buoys, life jackets, and even diving into the water to help pull the professionals to safety.
In response to the incident, the Praticagem, responsible for navigation support, dispatched boats to the scene to assist with the rescue operations. Fortunately, all individuals involved were pulled from the water unharmed. This incident raises awareness of maritime safety and the importance of community assistance during emergencies, especially in high-traffic port areas where accidents can occur unexpectedly.
