LASG lauds youth council’s emergency response efforts

The Lagos State Government has praised the National Youth Council of Nigeria for its new safety initiative aimed at improving emergency response in the region.

The Lagos State Government has officially recognized the initiatives of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, specifically its Lagos State Chapter, for launching a proactive youth-led safety program known as the Lagos Youth Safety and Emergency Champion. This initiative was inaugurated during the second installment of the Lagos Youth Talk Series, which aims to enhance emergency response and safety measures throughout Lagos, a city that wrestles with unique challenges due to its rapid population growth.

During the launch event, the Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Relations, Olugbenga Oyerinde, emphasized the critical timing of this program, indicating that Lagos's increasing safety and emergency challenges necessitate strengthening the community's response capabilities. He represented the governor and discussed how the initiative is designed to align with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES PLUS Agenda, which focuses on technology, health, education, transportation, and security to foster a better living environment for Lagos residents.

Furthermore, Oyerinde highlighted the Lagos State Government's ongoing investments in emergency management and response facilities, including the establishment of a Command and Control Centre that utilizes advanced technology. The aim is to not only improve the state’s preparedness for emergencies but also to empower the youth as active participants in community safety efforts, thereby fostering a culture of responsibility and resilience among the city's younger population.
