Stop for trains on Malmbanan remains
Train services on the Malmbanan line in Sweden remain halted due to a derailment incident, with no clear timeline for resuming operations.
Train traffic on the Malmbanan line in Sweden has been suspended following a derailment of two freight train cars during a switching maneuver near Abisko. The incident occurred late Saturday night, and as a result, railway services are currently disrupted and are expected to remain so for at least several days.
Angelica Knutsson, a spokesperson for the Swedish Transport Administration, indicated that by Monday, services had not resumed and it was anticipated that trains would also not operate on Tuesday. A possible resumption of services could occur as early as Wednesday, though no definitive timeline has been established yet. Additionally, while freight services are primarily affected by the halt, some passenger train services managed by SJ have also been canceled between LuleΓ₯ and Narvik, as well as Narvik and Boden.
This disruption has significant implications for both the freight and passenger transport systems, particularly in regions reliant on rail connectivity for commerce and travel. The railway authorities are expected to provide updates later in the day regarding the situation as they work to assess and resolve the derailment incident.
