Brazilian duo finishes first day of bobsled in 24th place
The Brazilian bobsled team, consisting of Edson Bindilatti and Luís Bacca, placed 24th on the first day of Olympic qualifying events in Milan-Cortina.
The Brazilian bobsled team initiated its participation in the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympic Games with Edson Bindilatti and Luís Bacca achieving the 24th best time on the first day of the qualifier, out of 26 competitors. Their sled recorded a combined time of 1:53.76 over two runs on the icy concrete track of the Sliding Center in Cortina d’Ampezzo. The team is set to make one more run on Tuesday, the 17th, at 3 PM local time.
In the competition, the top twenty teams after the first three runs will advance to the fourth and final run, which will determine the medal standings. Domination on the track was seen from the German teams, with Johannes Lochner and Georg Fleischhaur leading with an impressive time of 1:49.90. Bindilatti noted that this experience serves as valuable preparation for their future participation in the four-man bobsled event, expressing a hope to improve their performance in the upcoming runs.
With the Olympics showcasing extreme international competition, this initial performance by the Brazilian duo highlights the challenges faced by nations with less experience and fewer resources in winter sports. Meanwhile, the team's ambition to secure a place in the next round illustrates their determination and commitment to achieving a respectable standing in a sport mainly dominated by European countries.
