ICPC begins tracking of N21.6bn projects in Sokoto
The ICPC has initiated a tracking operation for 64 projects worth N21.6 billion in Sokoto State, uncovering irregularities in some.
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has launched an initiative to track 64 executive and constituency projects amounting to approximately N21.6 billion in Sokoto State. This effort is part of the ICPCβs Constituency and Executive Projects Tracking programme, currently active in numerous states throughout Nigeria. The tracking aims to ensure compliance and address financial mismanagement in public projects.
Team leader Mr. Aminu Bala announced the inspection will focus on multiple sectors including health, education, water supply, agriculture, electrification, and special interventions. The ICPC has already identified discrepancies in projects implemented in several local government areas, such as Kalambaina and Gwuiwa in Wamakko, as well as Mabera and Mana in Sokoto South. These inconsistencies notably pertain to contracts not meeting specified requirements, prompting the commission's intervention.
To rectify these issues, Bala indicated that the ICPC is instructing contractors responsible for the highlighted projects to return to their sites and comply with contract specifications. This proactive approach signifies the ICPCβs commitment to combating corruption and ensuring that public funds allocated for development projects are used effectively, reflecting a broader strategy of accountability in governance in Nigeria.
