At least 13 injured in Russian attacks on Ukraine over past day
At least 13 people were reported injured in various Russian missile and drone attacks across Ukraine within a single day.
On February 16, local authorities in Ukraine reported that at least 13 individuals were injured due to a series of Russian attacks that occurred over the past 24 hours. These assaults included the use of advanced weaponry by Russian forces, such as four hypersonic Zirkon anti-ship missiles, an Iskander-M ballistic missile, and 62 drones, primarily of the Shahed type. Ukrainian air defense successfully intercepted two of the Zircon missiles and managed to down 52 drones, although at least nine drones and one missile managed to strike eight locations in the country, leading to further casualties and property damage. In the Zaporizhzhia Oblast, the attacks resulted in injuries to six individuals according to the regional governor. This area, like many in eastern Ukraine, has been subjected to intense fighting and strategic bombardments due to its significance in the ongoing conflict. The governor emphasized the distress caused by the attacks and reiterated calls for international support to bolster defense capabilities in the region. Other regions of Ukraine were also affected, with Kharkiv Oblast reporting injuries to three people, including a minor, as a result of missile strikes in the village of Tetianivka, highlighting the indiscriminate nature of the attacks and their impact on civilians, specifically children. The consistent bombardment of various regions in Ukraine illustrates the ongoing volatility and danger faced by civilians amid the prolonged conflict, raising concerns over humanitarian issues and the urgent need for peace negotiations.
