Selective electronic waste collection is launched in Manaus to reduce environmental impact
Manaus has launched an electronic waste collection project aimed at recycling and reducing environmental impact through proper disposal of electronic devices.
The city of Manaus has initiated a selective electronic waste collection program designed to provide proper disposal options for discarded electronic devices. This initiative was introduced during the 'Electronic Detox Day - Manaus + Circulare' at the Ecoponto in the Educandos neighborhood, emphasizing the need for environmentally responsible practices. The program is spearheaded by the Municipal Secretary of Urban Cleaning (Semulsp) and includes plans to set up 62 Voluntary Delivery Points (PEVs) throughout the city, aiming to ensure residents have accessible means to recycle electronic items.
With more than 500 factories operating, primarily in the electronics sector, Manaus is a significant industrial hub in Brazil. The launch of this electronic waste collection program is crucial as it aligns with the city’s productive capabilities and addresses the growing concern of electronic waste pollution. The initiative promotes circular economy principles, encouraging local residents and industries to participate actively in the recycling process, thus mitigating environmental impact.
Moreover, the establishment of a permanent collection network for electronic waste not only facilitates responsible disposal but also supports sustainability efforts in Manaus. By engaging the community in these eco-friendly practices, the local government hopes to foster awareness about the importance of electronic recycling and its benefits for both the environment and the city’s industrial ecosystem.
