PHOTO ⟩ We can’t expect thaw even next week
Latvia is expected to continue experiencing severe frost next week, with temperatures dropping significantly at night, yet a slight warming is projected over the weekend.
Next week, Latvia will still face freezing temperatures, particularly during the nights where severe frost can be observed in certain areas. The Latvia Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre (LVĢMC) forecasts a gradually warming trend towards the weekend, especially in the western regions where temperatures may approach zero degrees Celsius. However, daytime temperatures will still remain low, suggesting a persistent winter scenario.
In the coming days, an anticyclonic influence will result in clearing skies and light winds, with minimal precipitation expected. Some light snowfall may occur towards the end of the working week, but overall, the weather is likely to remain calm. With the anticyclone reaching over Latvia, Monday is expected to offer predominantly clear skies, albeit with some cloud cover at times, and the possibility of minor snow showers in certain locations.
During the night, temperatures are predicted to plunge to between -13 and -18 degrees Celsius, while coastal regions will remain slightly milder. However, southern Latvia could experience extremely low temperatures, reaching -20 to -24 degrees Celsius, and in some local areas, it could drop even further to -25 to -27 degrees Celsius. By daytime, temperatures will increase slightly, ranging from -3 to -8 degrees Celsius, with eastern regions seeing a temperature drop to between -6 and -11 degrees Celsius, maintaining a cold spell in the region.
