Severe Frost Will Continue Next Week
Latvia is expected to experience severe frost next week, with temperatures dropping significantly across various regions.
In the coming days, an anticylone will dominate Latviaβs weather, leading to clear skies and light winds, with little precipitation expected, though some light snow may occur later in the week. On Monday, the center of the anticylone will lie over Latvia, resulting in mainly clear skies with occasional cloud cover. Night temperatures are expected to drop between -18 to -13 degrees Celsius, with colder regions in the south plummeting to -24 to -20 degrees, and possibly even reaching as low as -27 to -25 degrees in some areas.
The weather patterns are likely to persist on Tuesday, with temperatures forecasted to be even colder, particularly during the night when many areas could see temperatures of -24 to -20 degrees, and parts of central and eastern Latvia dropping to the extremes of -27 to -25 degrees. During the daytime, temperatures may rise slightly to between -8 to -3 degrees in most regions; however, the east side may see readings of -11 to -6 degrees. This sustained cold snap poses challenges for daily life, including transportation and health risks for vulnerable populations.
As temperatures remain unusually low, the situation raises concerns over the impact on infrastructure and public services, especially in regards to heating demands and potential road conditions. Weather forecasts will be closely monitored as conditions evolve, particularly as any changes may affect daily activities and safety across the country. Residents are advised to prepare for continued cold temperatures and to exercise caution when venturing outdoors during this severe frost period.
