Thaw Expected Across Latvia in the Last Week of February
Latvia is preparing for a significant thaw this week as warmer air masses are expected to raise temperatures nationwide.
At the start of this week, Latvia experienced very cold nights, with temperatures dipping below -30 degrees Celsius in some southern regions. However, as the week progresses, a warmer air mass is expected to flow into Latvia, leading to a notable rise in temperature. Although the eastern parts of the country will see cold air temperatures plummeting to between -10 and -14 degrees Celsius in the upcoming nights, a general warming trend will take hold by the end of the week and into early next week.
Meteorological forecasts indicate that the weather will become 'dynamic' in the coming days, with expected precipitation throughout Latvia. Initially, snowfall is anticipated, but as temperatures rise, this will transition to wet snow and rain. The weather will be particularly windy along the coast on certain days. By Friday, skies will be cloudy with occasional clearing, and light snow may fall at night in some areas. Daytime temperatures will hover around -2 to -7 degrees Celsius, with the western part of the country possibly reaching temperatures above freezing.
Saturday will see some clearing of the skies, but conditions will remain unsettled as the forecast anticipates varying weather patterns throughout the week. The shift from extreme cold to a milder climate could have implications for agriculture and daily life in Latvia, as the thaw may influence soil conditions and natural ecosystems.
