Drivers caught speeding nearly 150 km/h on Goiás highway; video

Drivers were caught traveling at nearly 150 km/h on BR-060 in Goiás during the first day of Operation Carnival 2026, according to the Federal Highway Police.

On the first day of the 'Operation Carnival 2026', Federal Highway Police in Brazil reported that drivers were detected exceeding the speed limit on BR-060, near Anápolis in central Goiás. Videos released by the police show vehicles reaching speeds of up to 148 km/h, significantly above the legal limit for that highway segment. These infractions are serious, as speeding poses a significant danger to road safety.

The Federal Highway Police issued a warning stating that all drivers caught exceeding the speed limit would face penalties. Specifically, if a vehicle exceeds the speed limit by more than 50%, the violation is classified as grave, incurring a fine of R$ 880.41, seven points on the driver's license, and potentially leading to a suspension of driving privileges. This strict enforcement is indicative of increased monitoring efforts, especially as the holiday period unfolds.

The police emphasized that excessive speed is the leading contributor to fatal accidents on Brazilian roads. In light of this trend, authorities plan to intensify surveillance and enforcement measures throughout the extended holiday weekend on federal highways across the state, aiming to mitigate risks and enhance public safety during the traditionally busy travel period associated with Carnival festivities.
