A driver was detected traveling at an alarming speed of 183 km/h on the BR-343 highway in Piauí, which is over 80% above the posted speed limit of 100 km/h. This incident occurred on Thursday, February 12, between the cities of Amarante and Floriano, highlighting the ongoing issues of traffic violations in the region. The Federal Highway Police (PRF) have emphasized their commitment to monitoring and controlling speeding on Brazilian roads.
The identified driver will face a hefty fine of R$ 880.41 due to this severe infraction, as outlined in Article 218 of Brazil's Traffic Code (CTB). This penalty is triple the base fine typically imposed for such excessive speeding. In addition to the financial consequences, the driver is also at risk of facing administrative proceedings that could lead to the suspension of their National Driver's License (CNH).
The PRF pointed out that speeding is one of the key contributors to the severity of accidents on highways, and they continue to enhance enforcement through technological means to ensure road safety. Strategies are being implemented to intensify surveillance and reduce incidents, thereby protecting the lives of all road users in the area, which has seen significant concern for traffic safety lately.
