Surfistinha, Sanches, Lourdes, Urach: Porto da Pedra will parade with about 70 sex workers

Around 70 current and former sex workers will participate in the 2026 Carnival parade of Unidos do Porto da Pedra, aiming to spark debate and attention to their profession.

For the 2026 Carnival, the Unidos do Porto da Pedra samba school is set to showcase approximately 70 current and former sex workers, including well-known figures such as porn actresses Andressa Urach and Elisa Sanches. The parade, which will take place at the iconic Marquês de Sapucaí, aims to create a platform for discussion about the realities and rights of sex workers, celebrating their contributions and challenging societal perceptions around their profession.

Prominent among the participants will be Lourdes Barreto, an 83-year-old former escort from Paraíba, now an activist for sex workers' rights, recognized as one of the 100 most influential women in the world by the BBC. Also joining the spectacle is Raquel Pacheco, better known as Bruna Surfistinha, who gained fame for her autobiography detailing her life as a luxury prostitute. This carnival entry is a significant step toward visibility and recognition for sex workers, aiming to turn the festivities into a stage for both celebration and serious discussion.

The parade is titled "Das Mais Antigas da Vida, o Doce e Amargo Beijo da Noite" (From the Oldest of Lives, the Sweet and Bitter Kiss of the Night), created by the carnavalesco Mauro Quintaes. By celebrating sex workers, Porto da Pedra not only pays homage to their realities but also encourages spectators to reconsider their views on sex work and its place within society, pushing for mediated dialogues amidst the revelry of Carnival.
