Tornado hits Pelotas and causes damage in a mechanic shop in RS
A tornado struck Pelotas in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, causing damage to a mechanic shop and resulting in localized flooding and other damages across several neighborhoods.
The Civil Defense of Rio Grande do Sul confirmed the occurrence of a tornado in Pelotas on Thursday, leading to significant damage in various areas. The tornado was first reported in the Fragata neighborhood around 10:45 a.m. and moved towards the Areal neighborhood before dissipating. Alongside the tornado, heavy rainfall of around 40 mm was recorded in less than half an hour, which is nearly 30% of the area’s expected precipitation for the entire month. This sudden deluge resulted in localized flooding and roof damage to homes, particularly affecting the neighborhoods of Bom Jesus, Dunas, Vasco Pires, Leocádia, and Obelisco.
