Storm in Serra do Rio: Roof of Parking Lot Collapses in Teresópolis

A severe storm in Teresópolis, Brazil, caused structural damage including the collapse of a parking lot roof, but no injuries were reported.

On the afternoon of Wednesday, the 18th, a severe storm hit Teresópolis and several other cities in Brazil's Serra region, resulting in significant structural damage and disruptions. The intense rainfall, accompanied by thunder and strong winds, alarmed residents throughout the city, yet the Civil Defense reported no injuries or homeless individuals as a result of the storm.

The most serious incident occurred in the Agriões neighborhood where the roof of a parking lot located in front of the Teresópolis Forum collapsed due to the force of the wind. Fortunately, as the Judiciary was on recess, there were relatively few people present at the time, thereby preventing a larger catastrophe. However, according to the property owner, two vehicles were directly hit by the fallen structure.

In addition to the roof collapse, the storm caused widespread power outages. In the city center, a high-tension cable snapped, leaving numerous businesses without electricity for hours while the utility company Enel was called in to make repairs. The Posse neighborhood also suffered, with several reports of trees toppling due to the severe weather conditions, reflecting the storm’s intensity and its impact on the local community.
