Rei Pelé Complex registers leak less than a year after inauguration in Manaus; VIDEO
A water leak was reported at the Rei Pelé Viaduct Complex in Manaus, prompting safety concerns from residents.
The Rei Pelé Viaduct Complex in the East Zone of Manaus has experienced a water leak just months after its inauguration, raising serious concerns among local residents regarding its safety. Videos released by Rede Amazônica showcase water streaming through a crack in the trench, infiltrating the roadway and creating ponds of water and muddy patches. This incident has led many in the neighborhood to question the structural integrity of the newly built infrastructure.
Inaugurated on June 26, 2025, after four delays, the urban facility was developed with an investment of R$ 80.8 million from the Government of Amazonas and the City Hall of Manaus. The troubling leak highlights potential deficiencies in construction or materials, especially given the complex's recent completion in early 2025. The city's administration noted that the work is still under warranty, which obliges the construction company to address the repair needs without additional costs to taxpayers.
In response to the emerging problem, the Manaus City Hall has taken action by notifying the responsible construction company after noting the leak in the trench area. The Municipal Infrastructure Secretariat (Seminf) has assured the public that the necessary repairs will be made. However, the incident raises broader concerns about future infrastructure projects in the city, especially regarding their durability and the management of public funds, as it is crucial for the community to have reliable roads and structures that do not succumb to such issues shortly after their completion.
