Heavy rains in Manaus caused flooding across various parts of the city, leading to disruptions for drivers and pedestrians.
On the morning of Thursday, the 19th, Manaus experienced intense rainfall that resulted in widespread flooding in multiple locations throughout the city. Residents recorded videos showing streets and avenues submerged, leading to significant challenges for motorists and pedestrians alike. In response to the situation, the Municipal Civil Defense issued three preventive sound alerts for areas prone to flooding. The city government of Manaus reported receiving six calls related to incidents caused by the rain by 9 AM on the same day, including four incidents of flooding, one case of a wall collapse, and one report of potential collapse. These calls were managed through the emergency hotline, Disque 199, emphasizing the immediate impact of the weather on daily life. Significant flooding was reported on Avenida Getúlio Vargas, where a bus stop was entirely inundated, complicating passenger movement. In the Tancredo Neves neighborhood, residents voiced concerns regarding persistent flooding on Rua Fera das Águas, attributing the situation to an incomplete municipal construction project. One resident remarked on the severity of the issue, noting that flooding affects homes and disrupts the lives of local community members. Furthermore, the situation in the southern region of Manaus, specifically on Rua São Luc, also illustrates the ongoing challenges faced by inhabitants during adverse weather conditions, showcasing the urgent need for infrastructure improvements.
