HU: Alanya Market in Itis receives a €20,000 penalty
Alanya Market in Itäkeskus, managed by Armina Oy, has been fined €20,000 by the city of Helsinki due to inadequate product labeling.
Alanya Market, a grocery store operating in the Itis shopping center in Helsinki and managed by Armina Oy, has received a €20,000 penalty from the city authorities. This fine was imposed after an inspection revealed that the product labels were not compliant with European Union regulations, which require packaging to be labeled in both Finnish and Swedish. The company has until April 1st to rectify these issues or face the possibility of having the fine enforced.
The decision for the penalty was made by the Environmental and Licensing Division of the City Environment Committee on Thursday, following an earlier directive in October that mandated corrections to the labeling practices. Alanya Market, which opened in late 2023 in the former location of Food Market Herkku, is noteworthy for offering a wide variety of products often absent from typical Finnish supermarkets, catering to the local community's diverse needs.
With over 2,000 square meters of retail space, Alanya Market provides a unique shopping experience, particularly focused on ethnic food options. This penalty highlights the importance of regulatory compliance for businesses, especially in diverse markets, and underlines the city's commitment to upholding EU standards in product labeling and consumer protection.
