A couple was arrested in Brazil for stealing bronze rings from tombs in a cemetery and selling them for a small sum at a scrapyard.
In a troubling incident in Araguari, Brazil, a couple was apprehended after allegedly stealing bronze rings from graves in the Municipal Cemetery. The couple, a 54-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman, reportedly broke into the cemetery and removed nine rings from various tombs. This theft occurred on a Tuesday, and the police have not disclosed how they managed to enter the cemetery grounds without detection.
Following the theft, police conducted a search operation that led to the couple's arrest. During questioning, they confessed to selling the stolen rings for just R$ 55 at a local scrapyard. When police visited the scrapyard, they found not only the stolen rings but also the cash paid for them. The quick police response and recovery of the stolen items highlight the ongoing issues of grave desecration and theft in the area.
The couple has been arrested for theft and taken to the Civil Police Station for further processing. Additionally, two other individuals were also taken in by authorities for receiving the stolen property.
