50 Emergency Calls Received by VUGD in the Last 24 Hours
Three people were injured, including a rescuer, in various fire incidents across Latvia in the last 24 hours.
Over the past day in Latvia, fire incidents have led to injuries for three individuals, which includes one rescuer, as reported by the State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD). In the afternoon, around 4:30 PM, emergency services were called to Grain Street in Kuldiga, where a public building experienced a fire affecting both a ventilation shaft and a table. During the incident, three people managed to evacuate the building before the fire department's arrival, but one person was injured. Meanwhile, another call was made to Balvu Street in Daugavpils, where garbage was ablaze in a garage, resulting in another person being injured who was already receiving medical assistance from an emergency service when firefighters arrived.
Later, around 7 PM, VUGD responded to a fire in a single-storey residential building spanning 120 square meters in AlsviΔ·i parish, AlΕ«ksne municipality. Before firefighters arrived, one person had successfully evacuated the property. During the firefighting efforts, one rescuer was injured but was able to continue working after receiving medical help. In total, VUGD received 50 emergency calls in the last day, reflecting a busy period for emergency responders in the country.
