Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Approves the Second Incheon Urban Rail Network Construction Plan

The Incheon City Government has received final approval from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport for its second urban rail network plan, including seven new lines.

On the 13th, Incheon Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok announced that the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has officially approved the second urban rail network construction plan for Incheon, which includes the Incheon Circular Line 3 and six additional lines. This plan is expected to enhance urban mobility and significantly contribute to the city's development over the next century. The final approval underscores the government's commitment to improving public transportation in the region.

Among the seven lines included in the plan, Incheon Circular Line 3 is prioritized, which will connect the Geomdan Lake Park Station, the terminus of Line 1, with Songdo Dalbit Festival Park Station, mirroring the existing line's route. This line, which is a light rail, will require transfers to the heavier Incheon Line 1, and upon completion, it will facilitate an efficient circular transit system around Incheon. The total length of all included lines is 123.96 kilometers, with an estimated budget of 8.684 trillion Korean won.

Furthermore, Incheon City is keen to expedite the preliminary feasibility study for the Circular Line 3, planning to submit it within the first half of this year. The projected cost for this line is 3.2179 trillion won, with a benefit-cost ratio of 0.8. Alongside the priority line, other potential lines such as Yonghyeon-Seochang Line and Songdo Tram are also in the planning stage, indicating a robust expansion of Incheon's urban transport network that could enhance connectivity and attract further investment into the city.
