Pile-up with ten vehicles blocks BR-101 in southern ES

A significant traffic incident occurred on BR-101 in Iconha, Espírito Santo, involving ten vehicles, including seven cars and three trucks, on the afternoon of Thursday, October 12. The accident, which was reported at 4:44 PM, led to the closure of one direction of the highway, causing major disruptions for commuters heading towards Vitória, with traffic entirely halted in that direction. In the opposite direction towards Rio de Janeiro, vehicles were redirected into the city center of Iconha.
The Ecovias Capixaba, responsible for the highway management, reported that emergency services were dispatched to handle the aftermath of the crash. This included inspection vehicles, tow trucks, and ambulances. The Brazilian Federal Highway Police (PRF) along with the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) were also called to the scene, highlighting the seriousness of the situation as at least one person sustained severe injuries.
Although preliminary reports confirm multiple vehicles were involved, there are currently no detailed updates regarding the total number of casualties or the circumstances that led to the pile-up. Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation and assist in clearing the roadway to restore normal traffic flow.
