Flatbed truck carrying 8 pickup trucks overturns on BR-101, injuring driver in ES
A flatbed truck carrying eight new pickup trucks overturned on BR-101 in Pedro Canário, Espírito Santo, injuring the driver and causing a partial road closure for twelve hours.
A flatbed truck, known as a carreta-cegonha, overturned on the BR-101 highway in Pedro Canário, located in the North of Espírito Santo, on Thursday morning, injuring the driver who sustained minor injuries. The incident led to a significant disruption on the highway, as the truck blocked one lane of a section that is not dual-carriageway, in addition to the cargo spilling onto the road. Emergency services responded promptly to the scene, attending to the injured driver and managing traffic flow.
The Federal Highway Police reported that the accident occurred at kilometer 8 of the highway heading towards Vitória, and the response included the establishment of a 'pare e siga' traffic system, allowing vehicles to alternate in movement while the cargo was unloaded and the overturned vehicle was righted. The ongoing process ensured that safety measures were in place to minimize further risks to motorists.
By 6:30 PM, the highway was fully reopened, allowing traffic to resume normal operations. This incident highlights the potential dangers associated with transporting heavy loads and the impact of such accidents on road safety and traffic management in Brazil.
