International tourism in Mexico grew 6% and reached 47.7 million visitors in 2025

Mexico welcomed 47.7 million international tourists in 2025, marking a 6.1% annual growth according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography.

Mexico closed 2025 with the arrival of 47.7 million international tourists, reflecting an annual growth of 6.1% according to figures from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi). This rise confirms the strengthening of the tourism sector as one of the principal drivers of foreign currency and economic activity in the country. In 2024, international traveler numbers stood at approximately 45 million, illustrating a notable increase in interest towards Mexico as a destination.

The Federal Tourism Secretariat (Sectur) emphasized that throughout 2025, numerous promotional efforts were implemented abroad aimed at encouraging arrival of more visitors, not limited to those coming from the United States. The government had previously projected a target of 48 million foreign tourists for the year, and the actual figure of 47.7 million shows just how close they came to achieving that goal, underscoring the effectiveness of their promotional strategies and the growing appeal of the country.

According to Inegi's report, the overall economic output generated by both international tourists and excursions indicates significant contributions to Mexico's economy, reinforcing the importance of tourism as a sustainable growth sector. This growth in international tourism points towards a recovering post-pandemic travel industry, as well as increasing confidence among travelers in visiting Mexico, which holds implications for future investments in the sector and the overall economic landscape.
