Metro Line 4: The tunnel from Goudi to Evangelismos has been completed
The tunnel for Athens Metro's Line 4 has been successfully completed, marking a significant milestone in the city's transportation infrastructure.
Historic moments are unfolding at the AVAX construction site in Evangelismos, as the tunneling machine "Athena" has completed its route by breaking through the last wall of the shaft at the intersection of King Constantine and Michalakopoulou streets. This breakthrough, celebrated with the sounds of "Break On Through (to the Other Side)" by The Doors, signifies the successful completion of the first major tunnel for Athensβ Metro Line 4, after traversing a distance of 5.1 kilometers from Katehaki.
The construction site, known as the "Evangelismos Shaft" of Metro Line 4, was visited by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Christos Dimas, along with the Deputy Minister, Nikos Tachiaos, and the Secretary General of Infrastructure, Dimitris Anagnostopoulos. Their presence at the site underscores the importance of this project in enhancing Athens' public transportation systems and reflects ongoing government investments in infrastructure development amidst the cityβs growing transit needs.
Following the conclusion of its mission, the 100-meter long tunneling machine "Athena" is set to be disassembled and brought to the surface for storage, marking the end of a crucial phase in the construction of Metro Line 4. This project not only emphasizes the city's commitment to improving urban mobility but also presents economic implications by creating jobs and facilitating easier transit for residents and visitors alike.
