VSAT: No undocumented migrants recorded for 22 days, a conditional peace period has arrived
The Lithuanian State Border Guard Service reports that there has been a notable absence of undocumented migrants crossing the border for 22 days due to severe weather conditions and a lack of organized migration activities from Belarus.
According to Giedrius MiΕ‘utis, an advisor for the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service (VSAT), the current period of reduced undocumented migrant activity should not be interpreted as the end of the migration crisis. He points out that two main reasons contribute to the current lull in migrant crossings: harsh weather conditions and a reduction in active operations from Belarus that previously facilitated the movement of migrants. With severe cold and deep snow making crossings physically challenging, the number of attempts has significantly dropped.
