Ikeja Electric demands tax identification details from customers
Ikeja Electric Plc has announced that starting January 1, 2026, all electricity bills must include valid identification details in line with the Nigeria Tax Act (2025) to be considered valid.
Ikeja Electric Plc has issued a public announcement stating that customers must provide valid identification details on their electricity bills as mandated by the Nigeria Tax Act (2025). This directive is set to take effect on January 1, 2026, when the law officially comes into force. To comply, customers are required to include at least one form of approved identification information on their bills.
The acceptable forms of identification include a Tax Identification Number, a Corporate Affairs Commission Registration Number, or the National Identification Number. Ikeja Electric has indicated that this requirement aims to ensure compliance with the legal provisions of the Act and to improve the accuracy of customer information on electricity bills. This change reflects a broader focus on regulatory compliance in Nigeria's utility sector, aligning utility practices with national tax and identification standards.
As the implementation date approaches, customers are encouraged to prepare their necessary identification details to avoid invalid bills, which could disrupt service. This policy not only ensures legal adherence but may also foster a more organized customer identification framework in the electricity distribution sector, impacting how utilities manage customer accounts and billing procedures in the future.
