River overflows, flooding affects homes and leaves 15 families homeless in Atibaia

On Wednesday, November 11, the Atibaia River overflowed due to heavy rainfall in the Bragantina region of Brazil, leading to significant flooding in various neighborhoods of Atibaia. The neighborhoods of Parque das Nações, Jardim Kanimar, Caetetuba, and Terceiro Centenário have been among the hardest hit, particularly Parque das Nações and Jardim Kanimar, which are adjacent to the Atibaia River and saw the water level rise 70 cm above its banks. The severe downpour resulted in 114 millimeters of rain falling in just 48 hours, inundating streets and homes with water.

As the situation worsened, local Civil Defense teams have mobilized to assist stranded residents, utilizing boats for rescue operations. A community shelter has been opened at the Jardim Imperial Community Center to accommodate those displaced by the flooding. As of the latest reports, approximately 15 families, or about 45 individuals, have been officially recorded as homeless due to the flooding, indicating a significant impact on the local community.
