Police seize 2 tons of drugs at the border between Brazil and Paraguay
Police in Brazil seized nearly 2 tons of marijuana from a stolen truck in Ponta Porã.
Police officers from the Department of Border Operations (DOF) made a significant drug seizure on a rural road in Ponta Porã, Mato Grosso do Sul, where they discovered almost 2 tons of marijuana hidden in the bed of a pickup truck. The operation took place during a routine patrol when the driver of the truck ignored a stop signal and fled the scene, prompting the use of a helicopter for aerial support in tracking the vehicle.
Upon apprehending the truck, officers found that the vehicle's license plates were counterfeit, and it had been reported stolen from Amambai earlier in the year. The seized marijuana has an estimated value of R$4.5 million, reflecting the large scale of the drug operation in the region. This incident highlights ongoing issues of drug trafficking at the Brazil-Paraguay border, an area known for such illegal activities.
The case has been referred to the Delegacia de Repressão aos Crimes de Fronteira (Defron) in Dourados for further investigation. Efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region continue, with police conducting regular patrols and working to dismantle organized crime networks involved in smuggling operations.
