New National Identity Card can be issued in notary offices in AM in the first half of 2026

Notary offices in Amazonas will be able to issue the National Identity Card starting in the first half of 2026, providing residents with a new option for obtaining this important document.

In a recent agreement signed on October 10, 2023, the state of Amazonas in Brazil will begin issuing the National Identity Card (CIN) through notary offices by the first half of 2026. This initiative was established by a cooperation agreement among the Amazonas Court of Justice, the General Justice Corregedoria, the Amazonas government, and the Association of Notaries and Registrars of Amazonas. For the first time in the state, residents will have the option to request the CIN directly from notary and civil registration offices, adding convenience to the process of obtaining this essential identification document.

The new arrangement aims to complement the previously existing free issuance of the CIN by executive government bodies. It introduces a paid service option and stipulates that the fees for the notary offices will vary based on the materials used for the identity card. For instance, the card made of polycarbonate is expected to cost R$ 307, while the paper version will be priced at R$ 165. This structured pricing plan is designed to provide residents with choices depending on their needs and financial capabilities.

This development marks a significant step towards enhancing accessibility to national identification for the people of Amazonas, potentially improving documentation processes and encouraging more residents to obtain a formal identity. It also reflects ongoing efforts by the state government to modernize civil registration systems and offer more efficient public services, streamlining the way many residents will access crucial identity documents in the coming years.
