Police in Maceió arrested a drug trafficking suspect and seized 24.7 kg of cannabis following an anonymous tip-off.
In a significant drug bust in Maceió, Brazil, the Polícia Militar (PM) arrested a suspect involved in drug trafficking and seized nearly 25 kilograms of cannabis. The incident took place on the night of October 10, in the Serraria neighborhood, where officers acted on an anonymous tip received through the Disque-Denúncia 181 hotline. Upon arriving at the reported location in Conjunto José Tenório, the police detected a strong smell of marijuana, prompting them to question the residents, who disclosed the presence of drugs in one of the bedrooms.
The arrested individual disclosed that he was paid R$ 500 to store the cannabis for three days, indicating the organized nature of this trafficking operation. In addition to the significant quantity of cannabis, officers also discovered a weighing scale, which is commonly associated with drug distribution. The suspect and the seized narcotics were taken to the Central de Flagrantes in Tabuleiro dos Martins, where he was formally charged with drug trafficking.
This operation underscores the ongoing challenges Brazil faces in combating drug trafficking, particularly in urban areas. The PM's quick response to the tip-off not only led to the arrest but also removed a substantial amount of drugs from circulation, highlighting the importance of community engagement and vigilance in tackling drug-related crime.
