Prosecutors request the court to recover 32,300 euros from the council members of Skuodas, Alytus, and Visaginas

Prosecutors have filed a claim against a council member from Skuodas for unjust enrichment, seeking to recover over 32,000 euros linked to various expenses compensated by the municipality.

The Klaipeda District Prosecutor's Office has initiated legal action against Skuodas council member Algerdas Rozga, claiming unjust enrichment. Prosecutor Laura Jurevičė has requested that the Klaipeda District Court recover 6,522 euros on behalf of the Skuodas municipality. The investigation revealed that from 2019 to 2023, Rozga received 10,133 euros in reimbursements for expenses related to his role as a council member. This total included 7,376 euros earmarked for fuel and 2,757 euros for telecommunications expenses.

During the investigation, it was found that Rozga utilized municipal funds to purchase mobile phones and tablets, along with their insurance. Additionally, the municipality compensated Rozga for telecommunications services during his tenure, leading to an unjust enrichment of 2,364 euros. Although Rozga has repaid 456 euros of this amount, there is still a remaining balance that he needs to return. This case sheds light on accountability within local government and the management of municipal funds, emphasizing the importance of transparency in public service.

The action taken by the prosecutors highlights the legal framework surrounding public officials' conduct and financial management. It reflects a growing scrutiny over the expenditures of local council members in Lithuania, particularly in light of public concerns regarding the appropriate use of municipal funds. As this case progresses, it may set a precedent for similar cases involving local government officials and their financial dealings, ensuring that public resources are managed responsibly and ethically.
