Passenger's Arm Torn Off in Accident After 'Race' Between Vans on Avenue in Manaus
A passenger in Manaus lost an arm in an accident involving two vans racing down a busy avenue.
On Tuesday, a serious accident occurred on Avenue Autaz Mirim in the East Zone of Manaus, where a passenger reportedly lost an arm due to high-speed racing between two vans. Witnesses stated that the vehicles were engaged in a race when one of the vans attempted to avoid colliding with a bus that was stopping for a passenger. The rapid maneuver resulted in a collision with the bus, causing a passenger in the van to suffer severe injuries when his arm extended outside the window during the impact.
The injured passenger was not immediately identified, and there is currently no information about his health status following the incident. According to reports from the Military Police, the collision underscores the dangers of reckless driving and the consequences of illegal street racing, which can lead to tragic outcomes for both drivers and passengers.
In a seemingly chaotic attempt at emergency response, the driver of the racing van, commonly referred to as "amarelinho," transported the injured passenger to Hospital e Pronto-Socorro João Lúcio. However, after dropping off the victim at the hospital, the driver left the scene, raising questions about accountability and proper protocol in such emergency situations. This incident highlights the urgent need for public awareness regarding road safety and the dangers of racing in urban areas.
