Criminal gang specialized in bank robbery dismantled by police planned heists in the Ribeirão Preto region

A criminal gang specializing in bank robberies was dismantled by Ribeirão Preto police, who found that the group was planning further heists in the region.

The Ribeirão Preto Civil Police successfully dismantled a gang specialized in bank robberies as of Tuesday, October 10, revealing that they had intentions of executing further heists in the region. According to Delegate Jorge Amaro Cury Neto of São Paulo's 3rd Judicial Police Department (Deinter), the investigation identified Cravinhos, São Paulo, as a potential target for the gang, although the planned robbery did not materialize. The suspects were actively scouting the area to determine the best locations to carry out their criminal activities.

Described by authorities as a part of a phenomenon known as 'novo cangaço,' which indicates a brutal approach to bank robberies, this gang differentiated itself by preying primarily on banks throughout the state of São Paulo. The law enforcement's efforts in this case highlight the ongoing challenge in combating organized crime, particularly as the group was under investigation since June of the previous year, with prior arrests made by the Special Police Actions Battalion (BAEP).

This development sheds light on the sophistication and planning involved in modern bank heists, as well as the continuous threat they pose to public safety and local businesses. The dismantling of this gang not only averts immediate dangers but also acts as a deterrent against the rise of similar criminal enterprises in the future, as police continue to enhance their strategies to dismantle such organizations.
