SP police execute 10 arrest warrants against gang suspected of planning a bank attack
The São Paulo Civil Police have executed ten arrest warrants against suspects involved in a heavily armed gang known for planning violent bank heists.
The Civil Police of São Paulo have carried out ten arrest warrants as part of an operation targeting a gang associated with the 'novo cangaço', a term referring to organized and violent attacks on bank agencies, particularly in rural areas. In addition to the ten arrest warrants, the operation dubbed 'Volante' also includes 20 search and seizure warrants across several locations including the capital of São Paulo and nearby municipalities such as Embu das Artes, Taboão da Serra, Jacareí, and further inland in cities like Ribeirão Preto and Cravinhos. The extensive reach of this operation underscores the wide network and operations of the gang, which has been identified as a significant threat to public safety and security in these regions.
Authorities have not disclosed the identities of the suspects and have reported difficulties in locating individuals responsible for their defense. This operation is being led by the Cravinhos Police Department with support from the Special Action Group to Combat Organized Crime (Gaeco) and the São Paulo State Public Ministry (MP-SP), indicating a collaborative effort to tackle organized crime in the state.
