Prosecutor's Office recommends planning and oversight for the Carnival in São Paulo

The São Paulo Prosecutor's Office has recommended that the city government implement planning and oversight measures for public areas during the Carnival in 2026 to ensure safety and prevent overcrowding incidents.

The São Paulo Prosecutor's Office for Housing and Urbanism has issued a recommendation to the city hall to implement necessary planning, management, and oversight measures concerning the use and occupation of public areas during the 2026 Carnival festivities. This initiative is specifically aimed at the scheduled block parades taking place during and after the Carnival period, ensuring that appropriate technical standards are met to guarantee maximum safe occupancy in these venues.

Promoters Camila Mansour Magalhães da Silveira, Roberto Luís de Oliveira Pimentel, and Marcus Vinicius Monteiro dos Santos highlighted the importance of this recommendation in light of incidents from a recent parade on the street of Consolação in the city center, which resulted in disruptions and posed risks to participating revelers. The recommendation was prompted by reports detailing problems arising from overcrowding, thus stressing the urgency for management standards that prevent potential hazards at such large public events.

The suggestions by the Prosecutor's Office include a detailed plan for crowd control and effective communication with local law enforcement to ensure public safety. As the Carnival is a major cultural event in São Paulo that draws massive crowds, the successful implementation of these recommendations could be instrumental in safeguarding both the experience of the participants and the overall order during the festivities.
