A. Miškinienė on proposed compensations: this is a starting point for discussion

Mayor A. Miškinienė emphasized that the newly proposed compensation scheme serves as a starting point for discussions regarding possible dislocations due to a new shooting range in Kapčiamiestis.

During a recent interview, Mayor A. Miškinienė addressed the proposed compensations related to the establishment of a new shooting range in Kapčiamiestis, stating that the measures have been presented as a foundational starting point for further discussions. The draft law outlined the compensation framework that aims to address concerns surrounding residential properties in the vicinity of the planned site. The discussion is expected to culminate in concrete results that will accommodate affected residents.

Key details of the compensation proposal include both material and non-material damages. Specifically, residents can expect compensation based on the higher value between restorative or comparative assessments of their properties. Additionally, non-material losses will be compensated at a significant sum equivalent to 45 minimum monthly wages, totaling approximately 51,800 euros before taxes for residential properties. There are additional provisions for compensatory costs associated with forested land in the area, which will also be assessed by an independent evaluator.

Furthermore, property owners located within the designated shooting range territory will have five years to decide whether to remain at their homes or sell their properties based on the compensation offered. This proposal is part of a broader discourse on land use and development within the region, and Minister of National Defense Roberto Kaunas emphasized the importance of ensuring fair compensation as part of the transition to these new military facilities.
